A specified number of interviews required in a sub-group of the sample. For example, if it is required that a survey of 1,000 people has 478 men then the quota is for 478 men.

Almost all commercial surveys employ quotas and the use of quotas should not be confused with Quota Sampling.

Also known as

Stratification (this is the textbook term, but it is not commonly used in commercial non-government studies except by statisticians).
