NET
A NET is a combination of categories of a categorical variable or question. For example, if you have a question showing people's ages in in the following bands: 18 to 35, 25 to 34, 35 to 44, 45 to 54 and 55 or more, the combined category of 18 to 34 is a 'NET'.
In some programs, such as Q and DataCracker a NET is shown on tables involving categorical variables instead of a total. Thus NET is then the combination of all the categories on the table. Where the data is the a single response question the NET in this instance is identical to a total. Where the data is multiple response, however, the NET is different to a total and the NET can be less than 100% (which would mean that there were some people in the survey not in any categories of the question).
