Quartiles

Four groups of equal size, where the groups are defined as:

• Less than the 25th percentile
• Between the 25th percentile and the median
• Between the median and the 75th percentile
• Greater than the 75th percentile

There is no standard treatment for observations that are exactly equal the the 25th, 50th or 75th percentiles.
